A greedy foreign compeditor with our native ladybirds. It is slightly larger and usually orange with fifteen to twenty black spots but some are black with two or four orange or red spots. It has a more rounded body than the native ladybird and always has a prominent white area with an M shaped black marking behind its head.
It is beneficial to gardeners because it lives on a diet of aphids but there are concerns that it is so greedy that it will wipe out our native ladybirds.
If you see one on the allotment site please tell the Society office where and when you saw it.
